A recent case in point:  A Fortune 500 international telecommunications equipment manufacturer called on us to help solve a problem with its largest customer.  Initially, they requested we produce a Video CD to instruct the customer's technicians on proper installation and maintenance of their basic equipment line.

However, after analysis, we recommended an alternative that was less than half the cost of the video production, and much more effective. We produced a data CD that gave the technicians quick and easy access to the thousands of pages of equipment documentation, normally contained in a huge binder few installers ever used because of the time required. Building a user-friendly, point-and-click approach, now installers can reference exact procedures on one CD they pop into their laptop wherever they may be working.

The big payoff:  the technicians love it, the customer is getting the job done faster, and there are fewer callbacks; the client's product image has improved, its tech support staff is getting a break by fewer calls for intervention, and the client saved big money by accepting our recommendation.

Some would say McPherson Associates made itself the only "loser" by suggesting the lower cost alternative and cutting the budget for the job.  However, that was more than offset by the satisfaction of doing a good job and gaining a loyal client, who plans to do similar projects for their entire equipment line.
